Introduction to Adding File Path To Excel Sheet
Want an easy way to find a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet on your PC computer ? There are a number of ways to make finding Excel files easier. This article will focus on having the file location show right on the hard copy of the spreadsheet.
If you ever noticed a file path printed at the top or bottom of an Excel sheet you'll know what I mean. Basically, the creator of the report "told" Excel to have that file path or file location printed directly onto the page each time a page prints out.
This is pretty easy to do but it really isn't all that intuitive of a process. I'll show you how to do it here and hopefully save you time looking for your reports.
This works best with Microsoft Excel 2007 but you may find this information helpful with other versions as well.
Step 1 Print Preview
When you have created your Excel sheet, get yourself into "Print Preview" mode.
Basically click the upper left "File" icon (which looks like Microsoft logo on Excel 2007) then Print, Then Print Preview
Step 2 Page Set Up
Click the "Page Set Up" icon at the top left of the screen.
A "Page Set Up" window will appear.
Step 3 Header Footer Tab
Now, we can either insert the location path of your Excel sheet in either the header or the footer section. To insert the file location of your spread sheet in the header (or top of the spreadsheet,) click the "Custom Header" button. To insert the file location of your spread sheet at the footer (or bottom,) click the "Custom Footer Button"
Regardless of whether you chose header or footer, the following steps will all work out the same from here on out. For the sake of this article, I'll select "Custom Footer" as I typically find Excel file paths to be located at the bottom of report pages.
Add Pop Up Box To Excel Cells for Comments
- Add Comment Box That Pops Up Outside Excel Cell
You can make a box pop up for any particular cell you click on. These boxes are great for notes better explaining the data in an Excel cell (ie "this figure totals the year to date sales less expenses" etc)
Step 4 Align the File Path Location
You can choose to put the file path of your Excel sheet to the right, center, or left of the footer (bottom) or header (top) of page. Simply click inside the "Left Position" box for the left side, "Center Position" for the center or "Right Position" for the right side of top or bottom of spreadsheet.
I'll chose the right side for sake of this article.
Step 5 Stay In this Screen
After you clicked on the position you want, look for the buttons just above the position block you click on.
Look for the button that looks like a document sticking out of a yellow file. This is your "Insert File Path" button.
Click on the "Insert File Path" button, the click OK.
Draw a Line Through Text on Excel
- Put Strikethru Line Through Data in Cells in Excel
If you want to show text with a line through it (as if it is crossed off) this post should help.
Step 6
You are done. Now when your Microsoft Excel sheet prints out as a hard copy, the location of that document will be displayed at the bottom (or top if you chose) of the page.
