Thanks For Installing Once Installation Is Complete Problem With Netflix - How To Fix This Message

Introduction

If you are trying to play movies on your computer from the Netflix website, you may come across this message :  Thanks for Installing Once Installation is Complete Please Restart Your Browser to Watch This Movie

If you get this message and everything installs OK on your computer, great!  If you get this message from Netflix, your browser freezes and no installation happens.... bummer!  You won't be able to watch your movies on your computer.

It took some time for me to figure this out.  Hopefully this fix will work for you.

I Called NetFlix

I called Netflix directly and was surprised at how friendly they were. The advice they gave did not work for me, but might work for you. I'll go through this below as well as the solution I found that actually did work.

Netflix support did provide some decent background on the issue though. Netflix sends movies to your computer through the Microsoft Silverlight application framework. Since Silverlight is a Microsoft Product, it runs better on Microsoft's Internet Explorer than Mozzilla.

As fate would have it, what browser am I using? The (superior to IE) Mozzilla of course

For months, Netflix movies did run on my computer through the Mozzilla browser no problem, then it only worked on Internet Explorer.

The Netflix guy said he loves Mozzilla and Silverlight IS designed to be compatible with Mozzilla.

They also love Google Chrome browser but added that (as of the date of this article), Chrome won't work at all with Silverlight (though I'm thinking the solution below might work for Chrome as well)

Here's What Netflix Recommended

NOTE: This did not work, but that doesn't mean it won't work for you. Different glitches have different problems.

1. Clear your cookies from your internet browser.

2. Clear your browsing history from your browser

Did this work? No? Try:

3. Uninstall Mozilla (if you are using Mozilla) and then reinstall. This might work out any problem. If you are using IE, uninstalling first isn't as critical (Mozzilla is known to have problems if you don't uninstall first. IE you really do NOT want to unistall since it is tied to so many of your Microsoft features .... so they say)

Again, this did not work for me, although I did upgrade to a newer Mozzilla.  I called Netflix back again and they suggested I call Microsoft for Silverlight support.

The Call to Microsoft

I called Microsoft and they were a complete waste. They wasted all this time poking around my computer trying to fix everything that I had already told them I did. Then they started working on my Internet Explorer which I had to re-explain was working fine, it was my Mozzilla that was a problem.

After hearing that (again), they tried to blame Mozzilla and told me that they can't help. I had them stumped though when I mentioned Microsoft designed Silverlight to be compatible with Mozzilla so it is a Microsoft problem.

After a while I grew tired of the phone call which I suspect was picked up halfway around the world so I decided to poke around on my own and find a solution.

The Solution That Worked

This was such an easy fix I couldn't believe Microsoft or Netflix didn't recommend this.

I simply installed an IE Tab Plug-In on my Mozzilla (if you are using a different browser, you may want to try to search for IE tab on that browser's site). The movies stream on my computer just fine now. No more " Thanks for Installing Once Installation Is Complete Please Restart Your Browser to Watch This Movie " message.

In simplest terms (because I don't know the technicalities of it) the IE tab plug in will allow you to run Mozzilla as your browser, but with a simple click of your Mozilla logo in the bottom right corner of your screen, you can run a specific tab or web page using Internet Explorer. Basically, I'm using Mozzilla on the Internet and for all of my tabs, except when I bring up Netflix I just click on that globe/Mozzilla logo and movies run just fine.

Installing was easy.

Just go to Mozilla.com

Click on Add-On's at the top of the screen

Click on FireFox Add-Ons in the drop down menu

A new screen will appear. Type IE Tab the search bar and your information will come up.

Select the IE Tab that is right for your current browser and follow the download process.

Once the IE Tab is installed on Mozzilla, all you'll have to do is click the little globe in the lower right when you are in Netflix. The globe will turn into the IE logo and you'll be all set to click play on your Netflix movie.

I included a screen shot of the globe below. I circled it in that scribble line :-)

Thanks for Reading

I sincerely hope this resolves your "Thanks for Installing Once Installation is Complete Please Restart Your Browser to Watch This Movie" problem and movies are now streaming to your computer no problem.

I don't hide the fact that, quite honestly, I'm a newbie when it comes to plug in's and fixes. That said, if you have any problems, feel free to ask and I'll at least try to help.

Thanks for reading!

Isn't amazing how tech support always wants to believe we are stupid? Even when we tell them we tried what they insist we try when we already tried it. They don't listen, they assume we are morons. I usually end up fixing my own problems eventually anyway. If I fiddle around long enough the solution presents itself. You have have some really great solutions to several things. Ennjoy your hubs.

It is utterly astonishing. You said it very well. Thanks so much for reading as always!.

Dealing with tech support can be so frustrating at times. Half the time I don't know why I even call them as I too like crazybeanrider end up fixing the problems my self. I have been thinking about getting Netflix so your article will come in very handy for me. Thanks for writing it! I look forward to reading more of your Hubs.

Thanks for chiming in on this Just Ask Susan. Even getting in contact with a tech support person can be difficult depending on which company you are dealing with (try Verizon High Speed Internet sometime... it'll make a construction worker cry)

You'll like NetFlix though. I'm pretty happy with it. The customer support couldn't resolve this problem but it was easy accessing a real, live, person and they were very nice. Overall it is pretty good. Thanks again!!

I went to the mozzila site, and saw Add-ons on the top page but didn't find any drop down menu that said Plug-Ins. I used to be able to just refresh and netflix would work, now it's not even doing that! I watch a lot of movies this way and would really appreciate your help!

TurtleDog 16 months ago

Hi Kilahatra! Thanks for the comment. I don't see the words "plug ins" there anymore either. Try clicking on add-ons instead (see my changes I made in the "Solutions that Worked" section above. I revised the article)

Then type IE TAB in the search block.

You'll see a bunch of plug-in choices. Select the one that is right for you.

This fix worked pretty good for me.

Funny enough, I recently, and coincidentally, finally upgraded to the latest Windows operating system. I downloaded Mozilla again without the plug in and it works fine. At least for this moment. Perhaps the latest version of MS Windows, SilverLight and and Mozzilla all like each other more now :-)+

Thanks again! Hope this helps

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I was able to impress my boyfriend with my tech abilities (well my searching, reading and following your abilities) thanks to you!

Oh, and stream instantly :)

TurtleDog 14 months ago

You are so welcome Bethany! Glad you are able to get those movies streaming instantly again!

Before I read this I did not know what NetFlix was. I just had a quick look it seems big. 8 dollars a month is not bad. But then I am not in the USA.

TurtleDog 14 months ago

Thanks for stopping by Rudra! Yeah, $8 a month in the USA is not very expensive so I think it's a decent deal for watching DVD and streaming movies.

I've been reading some of your articles. Well done! You've done a lot of work. Keep up the good work

I am having this issue with this "thanks for installing message", but my browser is internet explorer, so I'm not sure how to fix it.

TurtleDog 6 months ago

Thanks for the post Anonymus. I haven't had the problem on IE but perhaps clearing your browswer history and cookies will work? It seems that is the common answer from various help desks (though not always a reliable one :-) You might also check to be sure you are upgraded to the latest version of IE. The staff at NetFlix were very helpful, try contacting customer service and they can walk you thru it.

This was really hepful!! It actually worked as soon as I deleted the cookies and browsing history.

These were my attempts: I called Netflix 2 times, they said it was a problem with Javascript, and to reinstall it. I went on Google and searched for Java reinstall, there was a lot of info about Netflix errors but none helpful. Although I checked and my Java and Silverlight were OK, I uninstalled them both, re-installed them, restarted the PC, and still did not worked. It had the same problem on IE, which I don't use, but I thought maybe Netflix will work on it now, it didn't.

The thing is: only after I searched for this specific message error and found your answer it worked! Well I'm glad I did not have to go through with the other fixing options. Thanks and have a great day!

I don't see a globe on the lower right hand corner of net flex.

TurtleDog 2 months ago

Hi Joey B. I just tried it again. I re-downloaded the IE Tab and opened Netflix using the Mozilla browswer. The globe does appear aOK. Maybe you did not restart Mozilla after you added IE Tab.

In case you are looking in the wrong place, I added a screen shot of the Mozilla Globe in my article above. Check it out. It should get your streaming those vid films again :-)

netflix on my computer takes longer to buffer than to watch a flick? Does anyone know how to resolve this issue or I quit...

TurtleDog 3 weeks ago

Hi Dsweeney! I suppose you could have internet speed / connection issues though I'm not sure. A great feature of Netflix is that they match the video quality to the speed of you computer / internet usually pretty well.

I haven't called Netflix customer care in a while but last time I did I was pretty impressed at their service. They might have you run a speed check or maybe give a great recommendation on how to get your vids running more fluidly.
